This severe weather is part of a broader state of emergency declared in New York, as well as over a dozen other states, as the storm moves from Texas to Maine. Governor Kathy Hochul has announced travel restrictions, including a ban on long combination tandem vehicles on the Thruway, which took effect at 6 a.m. today. The storm has already caused disruptions, with courts and schools closing, flights being canceled, and power outages affecting 900 houses and businesses in Madison County. This extreme cold and snow are expected to persist, making it the coldest week in years for the region.
