For three full days, they handled content acquisition and provided live set audio for the streaming broadcasts of the 2025 Zane Grey Championship Playoffs—a high-stakes sport fishing tournament aired live on ESPN+. To ensure everything flowed smoothly, they sent live, three-hour program feeds directly to the TCL REMI broadcast facility at The Plex production center in Fort Worth, TX, utilizing SRT connectivity for reliable signal transport.
For those new to the tech, SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) is like a superhero for video signals—it's a protocol that ensures data travels securely and without hiccups over networks, even in remote locations. This setup was crucial for bridging the distance between the Baja action and Texas control rooms.
TNDV's custom flypack kit was a game-changer, packed with Sennheiser MD46 handheld microphones and HMD 27 headsets to capture crystal-clear talent audio. It also included cameras for video recording and SRT transport encoders to handle the data flow. On the live set, commentators relied on personal Studio Technologies Model 214A announcer’s consoles, which are Dante-enabled audio products. Dante is essentially a networking technology that lets audio devices connect over Ethernet, making setups flexible and high-quality—think of it as the Wi-Fi for professional sound systems. This was a shift from TNDV's past collaborations with the TCL REMI team, where commentary is typically produced in-house locally.

As Rob Devlin, president of TNDV, explains it, “TCL’s usual strategy of producing commentary in-house removes all video and audio delay concerns.” He goes on to detail how, for this event, commentators frequently referenced what they saw on TV screens, requiring immediate audio feedback. With the announcer’s consoles on-site, they avoided the frustrating two-second delay that can occur when signals bounce back from a control room. Since TNDV supplied their own audio feed, they used these consoles to fine-tune each commentator's personal mix, ensuring voices were sharp and engaging during the high-energy fishing action.
The live set itself was positioned in a vibrant open-air plaza right by the tournament's heart-pounding excitement, immersing viewers in the splash and thrill. But not everything was straightforward—TNDV had to think outside the box for the rest. With Rob Devlin as the sole onsite technician, they repurposed a hotel conference room into a makeshift control room. Critically, it was located just under 300 feet from the primary acquisition and production spots, staying within the safe distance for cable runs. This clever improvisation kept things efficient without compromising performance.
What makes this project stand out as a shining example of smart resource management is how TNDV positioned the flypack as a budget-friendly powerhouse. They adapted an existing flypack to fit strict size and weight limits, along with TSA and FAA shipping rules, making air transport feasible. Devlin notes, “It’s a 20-hour drive from San Diego to Baja California, and there are desert roads all along that route.
