In a shocking turn of events, just hours before the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Championship kicks off in Sapporo, Japan, renowned professional player ImperialHal has faced a significant setback: his preferred gaming controller has been banned. This unexpected decision comes at a critical moment, as making sudden adjustments to equipment is one of the most challenging hurdles for any competitive player.
Taking to social media, ImperialHal, who proudly represents Team Falcons, expressed disbelief over this situation, stating, "It has got to be a joke, surely."
The Ban on ImperialHal's ZD Ultimate Controller
The governing body of the ALGS has declared that ImperialHal’s primary controller, the ZD Ultimate, will not be permitted during the championship, a mere day before the tournament is set to begin. This controller, which may not be widely known but is packed with advanced features, offers tri-connectivity options, ultra-low latency, customizable trigger switches, additional buttons, back paddles, and even an RGB light strip, all for a price of $99.99 from the manufacturer.
In his statement, ImperialHal clarified that the ban was due to the controller's wireless capabilities, which can be altered remotely via mobile devices and involve macro programming that cannot be disabled. He pointed out that during the recent Esports World Cup, numerous players utilized controllers with similar functionalities without facing any restrictions.
"My controller gets banned the day before a $2 million tournament 😂😂😂 Gotta be a joke surely," he tweeted, conveying his frustration and disbelief at the timing of the decision.
With a competitive history dating back to 2019, ImperialHal initially made waves while playing for TSM. In 2024, he joined Team Falcons, contributing to their rising roster. Last year, he celebrated a remarkable achievement by securing first place in the ALGS Championship and followed that success with a strong second-place finish at the Esports World Cup. He also placed third in the ALGS Championship before that, making this upcoming event a crucial opportunity for redemption for the seasoned 26-year-old esports athlete.
What do you think about the timing of the ban on ImperialHal's controller? Is it fair for the organizers to impose such restrictions so close to an important tournament? We encourage you to share your thoughts and join the discussion on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
