Andrew Jeffers Leads the Pack on Lake Guntersville (2026)

The Battle for Guntersville: A Tight Race Unfolds

In the heart of Alabama, Lake Guntersville played host to an intense fishing tournament, the Toyota Series Presented by Phoenix Boats. Day 1 was a testament to the lake's abundance, with over 30 pros hauling in impressive catches, and a mere 23 pounds separating the top seven anglers. Leading the pack is Andrew Jeffers, who brought in a hefty 24 pounds, 5 ounces, closely followed by Ken Chambers with 23-12. The top 14 anglers all weighed in over 22 pounds, setting the stage for an incredibly tight competition.

But here's where it gets interesting: on the co-angler side, Alan Hults stole the show with an incredible 26-1 catch, which would have led the pros as well! Brian Strickland came in second with 20-12, but Hults' lead is substantial.

Day 2 promises an even more thrilling battle as the full field returns to the water. With another beautiful day forecast, the bite could be even better, and the race to make the Top 25 will be intense.

Jeffers' Sweet Revenge: Turning Bad Practice into a Golden Opportunity

For Andrew Jeffers, a native of Ohio, Lake Guntersville holds a special place. Despite working for the Le-Ax Water District back home, he's made the journey to Guntersville consistently, and this week, it might just pay off handsomely.

"This lake is my happy place," Jeffers shared. "When I decided to focus on the Toyota Series, I heard so many amazing things about Guntersville; it called to me. The way the fishery works here suits my style perfectly."

However, practice didn't go as smoothly. "I had a terrible practice this week," he admitted. "I just put my trolling motor down and fished, doing what I know best, and it paid off."

Jeffers started with a small keeper and then, around 9:30 or 10 o'clock, his luck changed. "I caught a flurry of fish - a 6-pounder, a 5-pounder, and a couple of 4s. For a while, I had just one squeaker, but then another flurry, and I culled out the smaller ones. I had to work hard for them; they weren't easy catches."

Jeffers relied on his forward-facing sonar primarily for grass detection, grinding it out in shallow waters all day. With one good day under his belt, he's hopeful the momentum will continue.

"I like what I've found; this lake is teeming with fish. I don't think you can beat them up. I'm optimistic about tomorrow. I won't say I'm guaranteed to catch them, but I'm hopeful."

Chambers' Close Second: A Local's Perspective

Perhaps indicative of the rapid seasonal changes on Guntersville, both Jeffers and Chambers agree that practice was largely worthless. As a local, Chambers went into the day with an uncertain strategy.

"It was a great day, but it started slow; you'd need to make at least 100 casts to get a bite. We chunked and wound a lot. It was a slow day, but I got the right bites later on - I culled out all the little ones."

In the afternoon, Chambers found his rhythm, but even that doesn't guarantee a repeat performance on Day 2.

"The bites were few and far between, but I got the right ones. I had a 7-pounder today. In practice, I caught only three fish. I stumbled upon the right spots and got lucky with the bites. I'd love to have 20 pounds tomorrow, at least 18, but we'll see how it goes."
